The first runner up... USA! Introducing, Jennifer Hawkins, Miss Universe 2004!!

Jennifer Hawkins, the new Queen of the Universe.

 After a keenly contested round of brain and beauty power, Jennifer Hawkins, "the thunder from down under", won the coveted Miss Universe title. Shandi Finessey of the United States placed second, Alba Giselle Reyes Santos placed third, Yanina Gonzales of Paraguay fourth and Danielle Amanda Jones of Trinidad and Tobago placed fourth. Completing the top 15 were India, Angola, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Norway and Switzerland.

Miss Panama, Jessica Rodriguez, also won the Best National Costume Award with Miss Trinidad and Tobago and Miss Mexico as runners up. The Miss Congeniality award was won by Laia Manetti, Miss Italy. Miss Photogenic, was won for the fourth time by Miss Puerto Rico. Although some viewers reported glitches in the production, the whole show seemed to me as being quite a disappointment, since many people cried out against the selection of seven Latino semifinalists in the top 15 and their favorite contestants were not selected.
